Health, Safety & Environmental Manager

About the role

Muller Milk & Ingredients is seeking a proactive Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead the HSE agenda at its Skelmersdale dairy manufacturing site. You will work closely with operational teams, embed a safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all HSE activities across the site, maintaining a visible presence on the factory floor.
• Develop, review and maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work and machinery safety checks.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with COSHH, PUWER, RIDDOR and other industry‑specific regulations.
• Support site certifications, including ISO 14001.
• Deliver safety briefings, toolbox talks and HSE training to staff.
• Collaborate with Food Safety, Technical, Engineering and Operations teams to identify trends and drive improvement.
• Promote an open, proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.

Required profile

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• IOSH membership and an environmental qualification such as AIEMA.
• Proven HSE experience in food manufacturing, FMCG or a related environment.
• Demonstrated ability to engage frontline staff on the production floor.

Required skills

• Risk assessment development and implementation.
• Incident investigation and root‑cause analysis.
• Delivery of HSE training and toolbox talks.
• Knowledge of COSHH, PUWER, RIDDOR and ISO 14001 standards.
