Health & Safety Officer – Aerospace Manufacturing

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our aerospace manufacturing team at the Basildon site. The role is responsible for leading all HSE activities, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, and fostering a zero‑harm safety culture within a highly regulated engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the Basildon site.
• Develop, implement and maintain HSE management systems, policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace assessments, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Lead investigations of accidents, incidents and near‑misses and produce reports with recommendations.
• Carry out and support risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
• Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and provide regular HSE performance reports.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and training programmes.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire safety arrangements and emergency response plans.
• Manage PPE requirements and occupational health surveillance programmes.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurers and external contractors.
• Support ISO management systems and continuous improvement initiatives, monitoring compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering or aerospace.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and environmental regulations.
• Ability to develop and maintain HSE management systems and conduct thorough audits.
• Excellent communication skills for advising managers and employees.
