Health & Safety Officer

About the role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our aerospace manufacturing team at the Consett site. The role leads HSE activities, ensures compliance with UK legislation, and drives a zero‑harm culture in a highly regulated engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the Consett site.
• Develop, implement and maintain HSE management systems, policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace assessments, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Lead accident, incident and near‑miss investigations and produce reports with recommendations.
• Carry out and support risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
• Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and provide regular HSE performance reports.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and training programmes for staff.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire safety arrangements and drills.
• Manage PPE requirements and oversee occupational health surveillance programmes.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurers and external contractors on HSE matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering or aerospace.
• Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and related environmental regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, COSHH assessments and incident investigations.
• Experience supporting ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or similar management systems.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence managers and employees.
