HR and Operations Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR professional to take full ownership of the people function for a growing plumbing distribution business. Reporting directly to the owners, you will shape HR strategy, support a diverse workforce across office, warehouse, logistics and driving teams, and drive continuous improvement across operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day HR activities and act as the first point of contact for managers and employees.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding and induction for all business areas.
• Provide guidance on employee relations, absence management, performance and wellbeing.
• Coordinate performance reviews, training and development initiatives.
• Review and develop HR policies, procedures and systems to support growth.
• Support HR compliance and assist with Health & Safety activities.
• Work closely with owners to enhance employee engagement and company culture.
• Identify and implement process improvements across the business.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a standalone HR Manager or broad HR Generalist role.
• Strong knowledge of the full employee lifecycle and UK employment legislation.
• Experience managing recruitment, employee relations and performance management.
• Confident advisor to managers with excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Proactive, organised and solutions‑focused with the ability to work independently.
