Infection Prevention and Control Nurse

About the role

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse will join the IPC team at North East London NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the prevention of healthcare‑associated infections across Trust services. The role offers flexible working arrangements to accommodate personal circumstances.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and audit infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
• Provide education and guidance to clinical staff on best practice for infection control.
• Conduct surveillance of infection trends and report findings to senior management.
• Participate in outbreak investigations and coordinate response actions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient safety and quality of care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC‑registered) with a genuine interest in infection prevention and control.
• Experience in a clinical setting; prior exposure to IPC work or link‑worker duties is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication skills.
• Willingness to undertake a comprehensive induction and probationary period.

Required skills

• Knowledge of infection prevention and control standards and guidelines.
• Competence in conducting audits, surveillance and data analysis related to infections.
• Proficiency in delivering training and educational sessions to staff.
