Interim Accountant – Children’s Social Care (Hybrid)

About the role

This interim position supports a London Local Authority’s Children’s Services Finance team. You will provide expert financial guidance, budget oversight and strategic partnership to ensure the delivery of high‑quality social care services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead budget monitoring and forecasting for Children’s Social Care programmes.
• Deliver financial business partnering to operational managers and senior stakeholders.
• Produce management information, financial reports and variance analysis.
• Identify financial risks, opportunities and efficiency savings.
• Support budget‑setting and medium‑term financial planning.
• Assist with year‑end accounts and statutory reporting.
• Develop financial models, business cases and options appraisals.
• Ensure compliance with local authority financial regulations and governance.
• Challenge service managers to improve value for money.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Children’s Social Care finance within a local authority.
• Background as an Accountant, Management Accountant or Finance Business Partner.
• Strong budget monitoring, forecasting and reporting expertise.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience presenting financial information to non‑finance audiences.
• Advanced stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
