Interim Financial Controller – Remote

About the role

A growing international non-profit organisation focused on public health and environmental initiatives is seeking an interim Finance Controller to strengthen its finance function during a period of growth and operational change. The role is hands‑on, project‑focused and will work closely with the Head of Finance to build structure, improve processes and deliver reliable financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Improve and automate finance processes, controls and reporting
• Bring core finance activities in-house from an outsourced bookkeeping provider
• Strengthen month‑end close, reconciliations and audit readiness
• Improve reporting structures and management information
• Support the development of scalable finance systems and workflows
• Ensure restricted and donor funding is accurately tracked and controlled
• Review and strengthen financial controls and compliance processes
• Support budgeting, forecasting and donor reporting requirements
• Work collaboratively with finance and non‑finance stakeholders across the organisation

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience)
• Strong financial control and reporting experience
• Experience improving finance processes within growing or evolving organisations
• Comfortable working in relatively lean environments with changing priorities
• Strong systems capability and process improvement mindset
• Experience within charities, NGOs, donor‑funded or multi‑entity organisations (highly desirable)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across remote international teams
• Proactive, hands‑on and comfortable operating autonomously
