Interim Information Rights Officer (12‑month contract)

About the role

This interim position supports a national regulatory body by managing information rights requests and contributing to the overall information governance framework. The role is hands‑on, requiring rapid familiarisation with existing processes and the ability to deliver accurate, compliant responses within statutory deadlines.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end Subject Access Requests (SARs) and ensure statutory deadlines are consistently met.
• Process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, conduct searches across multiple systems, and assess applicable exemptions.
• Liaise with colleagues across operational and corporate teams to gather relevant information and prepare compliant responses.
• Monitor shared mailboxes, assist with data‑breach investigations, and support records‑management activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of the information governance framework and provide practical advice on information‑rights matters.

Required profile

• Strong practical experience managing Data Subject Access Requests.
• Sound understanding of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information legislation.
• Experience in a regulatory, charity or public‑sector environment is highly advantageous.
• Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality and meet statutory deadlines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA and FOI legislation.
• Experience conducting data searches and assessing exemptions.
• Familiarity with information‑governance processes, data‑breach handling and records management.
