Interim Lead for Local Plan

About the role

This interim position is responsible for steering Dorset’s delivery of a new Local Plan and accompanying Design Guide under the latest National Planning Policy Framework. You will work closely with senior council members and the Spatial Planning team to ensure timely progress.

Key responsibilities

• Establish a critical‑path timescale and robust project‑management framework for the new Local Plan.
• Drive tangible progress on both the Local Plan and the Design Guide, using the management arrangements you set up.
• Align the resources of the Spatial Planning Team and the wider Planning Department with the primary objectives of the plan.
• Collaborate with the Cabinet Member for Planning, council committees and the Executive Director.
• Manage your diary to maximise face‑to‑face interaction with senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading complex planning or public‑sector projects.
• Strong stakeholder‑engagement skills with senior elected officials.
• Ability to organise resources and priorities across a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management capabilities.
