Island Nurse - Hoy

About the role

NHS Orkney is seeking an experienced Band 6 Island Nurse to join the small health team on Hoy. You will provide community and practice nursing services to a population of around 388 residents, delivering safe, high‑quality care in a remote, rural setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and monitor the health needs of the island community across the lifespan.
• Deliver nursing care in patients' homes, the local practice and community settings.
• Work autonomously without immediate hospital support, using clinical judgement and evidence‑based practice.
• Participate in weekly virtual team meetings to share knowledge and maintain peer support.
• Collaborate with GPs, allied health professionals and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Required profile

• Adaptable, resourceful and professionally accountable.
• Experience as a Band 6 nurse within the NHS or equivalent.
• Motivated to develop a broad range of generalist skills in a remote environment.
• Willingness to live on Hoy and manage rented accommodation independently.

Required skills

• Non‑medical prescribing qualification (essential).
