Island Nurse – Hoy

About the role

The Island Nurse will join a small health team on Hoy, delivering primary and community nursing services to a close‑knit island population of around 388 residents. This position offers the chance to develop broad generalist skills while working in a remote, rural setting supported by weekly virtual meetings with the wider Orcades Practice.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and monitor the quality of health care for all ages across the community.
• Provide community and practice nursing, including health promotion, chronic disease management and urgent care.
• Collaborate with GPs, other nurses and allied health professionals via Teams meetings to share knowledge and reduce professional isolation.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with NHS standards.
• Support emergency care when required, acting autonomously without immediate hospital resources.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse at Band 6 level with solid clinical experience.
• Adaptable, resource‑ful and able to work independently in a remote environment.
• Committed to delivering high‑quality care to a small island community.
• Willing to reside on Hoy and arrange private rented accommodation.

Required skills

• Non‑medical prescribing qualification (essential).
