Island Nurse

About the role

The Island Nurse will join a small health team on Stronsay, delivering comprehensive community and practice nursing services to a population of around 321 residents. This role offers the chance to develop a broad range of generalist skills while contributing to NHS Orkney’s vision of excellence in remote and rural healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and monitor the quality of health care across the community lifespan.
• Provide both community and practice nursing, including health promotion, chronic disease management and acute care.
• Work autonomously without immediate hospital support, making clinical decisions in a remote setting.
• Participate in weekly virtual Teams meetings for peer support and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Experienced Band 6 nurse with a strong sense of accountability and adaptability.
• Motivated to work in a remote, rural environment and develop a wide range of clinical skills.
• Professional, resourceful and able to operate independently.

Required skills

• Non‑medical prescribing qualification (essential).
