Junior Estimator – Projects

About the role

Artic Building Services Ltd is seeking a Junior Estimator for its Projects department in Dartford. Working Monday to Friday, 8 am‑5 pm, you will support the tendering process and help secure projects up to £2 million.

Key responsibilities

• Apply the ABSL Projects “Bid‑No‑Bid” protocol, escalating queries to management.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates by reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications and attending sites.
• Manage estimate deadlines, prioritising tasks to meet submission schedules.
• Identify operational and commercial risks before proceeding with bids.
• Use Ametch to break down labour, material and specialist costs, ensuring margin targets.
• Develop variant or value‑engineered bids and expand the subcontractor supply chain.
• Update the costing database for uniform, packaged estimates.
• Complete hand‑over and mobilisation checklists for awarded projects and flag potential contract variations.

• Pro‑active approach to problem solving and risk assessment.

Required skills

• Understanding of mechanical, electrical and building services.
• Experience with cost estimating for projects up to £2 M.
• Knowledge of NEC and JCT standard construction contracts.
• Proficiency with the Ametch estimating software.
