Junior Software Engineer (Platform)

About the role

Barclays is building a standalone Payments Acquiring business and is looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join the Platform & Infrastructure team. You will help create the high‑velocity foundations that enable product teams to ship code that moves billions of pounds with confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain platform services that support high‑scale payment processing.
• Collaborate with product managers and delivery teams to translate requirements into reliable code.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise at scale.
• Contribute to the design and improvement of cloud‑native infrastructure using Kubernetes and CNCF tools.

Required profile

• Experience working with engineering teams on complex, scalable systems.
• Hands‑on exposure to cloud environments and container orchestration.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Product‑thinking mindset, treating the platform as a product for internal engineers.

Required skills

• Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Kubernetes
• CNCF ecosystem tools
• Proficiency in at least two languages such as Rust, Go, or Kotlin
