Lawyer – Local Authority

About the role

RI Talent is partnering with a well‑established local authority to recruit a qualified Lawyer for its Legal Services team. The role offers the chance to advise on a wide range of public‑sector matters, support decision‑making and contribute to the delivery of essential services for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate, practical legal advice across diverse local government issues.
• Manage a varied caseload, drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents.
• Attend and advise at committee, sub‑committee and business meetings.
• Represent the authority at courts, tribunals, hearings and public inquiries as required.
• Draft and review reports to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
• Utilise legal case management and document management systems effectively.
• Support colleagues within the legal team and drive continuous service improvement.
• Identify and manage legal risks while aligning with operational and strategic goals.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX professional (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience providing legal advice in local government or the public sector.
• Specialist knowledge in one or more areas such as Property, Planning, Commercial Contracts, Litigation or Housing Disrepair.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and advocacy abilities.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and organisational skills.
• Ability to handle a busy, varied caseload under pressure.
• Experience with legal technology and case management systems.
