Lead Software Developer

About the role

Lead the team delivering digital services that support land and property ownership across England and Wales for HM Land Registry. You will provide technical leadership, mentor developers and shape the design, development and maintenance of both existing and new software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Guide technical decisions and contribute to software design across multiple projects.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners and delivery teams throughout the full software development lifecycle.
• Lead, coach and support a team of developers, ensuring high‑quality code and continuous improvement.
• Maintain and enhance existing services while driving new development initiatives.
• Participate in testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Required profile

• Significant professional experience as a software developer, operating at senior level.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor development teams.
• Strong communication skills and experience working with cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Experience with both legacy systems and modern agile delivery.
