Lead Triage Nurse

About the role

The Lead Triage Nurse will coordinate the triage of referrals to the Gynaecology service, ensuring patients are directed to the appropriate level of care. Working within established clinical pathways, the role supports safe, efficient patient flow from primary and secondary care sources.

Key responsibilities

• Apply NHS Gynaecology referral pathways to assess, accept, downgrade, update or reject referrals.
• Direct patients to the most suitable service or practitioner based on clinical urgency.
• Provide clinical support to the triage team and oversee its daily operations.
• Promote evidence‑based practice and act as a role model for best clinical standards.
• Lead and develop the nurse triage team, ensuring high‑quality service delivery.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with experience in triage or Gynaecology services.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage a small clinical team.
• Excellent communication skills with patients and multidisciplinary staff.
• Willingness to work in a fast‑paced NHS environment.
• Welsh language ability is desirable but not essential.
