Learning Mentor – Alternative Provision (Rochdale)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Learning Mentor to join an expanding Alternative Provision service in Rochdale. You will work directly with vulnerable pupils who face social, emotional and mental health challenges, supporting them both within the provision and during their reintegration into mainstream schools.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs.
• Build consistent, trusting relationships to improve engagement, attendance and emotional wellbeing.
• Facilitate pupils' transition back to mainstream primary and secondary schools.
• Travel between the Alternative Provision centre and partner schools across Rochdale as required.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and resilience.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, families and external agencies.
• Deliver personalised interventions and mentoring strategies.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to support planning.

• Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building abilities.
• Reliability, consistency and professionalism.
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
