Learning Mentor – Year 5 & 6 (Primary School)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Learning Mentor to support Year 5 and Year 6 pupils in a Brent‑based primary school. The role focuses on building confidence in English and Mathematics, helping children transition smoothly into Year 6 and preparing them for Key Stage 2 SATs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions in English and Mathematics.
• Work alongside class teachers to reinforce learning objectives and identify pupils needing extra support.
• Assist Year 5 pupils with the transition to Year 6 by developing literacy, numeracy and study skills.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging a growth mindset and resilience.
• Monitor progress, keep accurate intervention records, and report to teachers and parents/carers.
• Support SATs preparation through revision sessions and examination techniques.
• Promote positive behaviour, independence and effective learning habits.
• Contribute to an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.

Required profile

• Caring, enthusiastic and patient individual with a passion for helping children succeed.
• Experience working with primary‑aged children, especially in Key Stage 2.
• Good understanding of the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum in English and Mathematics.
• Confidence delivering one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational abilities to monitor progress and maintain records.
