Legal Assistant - Adult Social Care

About the role

HB Public Law is seeking a proactive Legal Assistant to join its Adult Social Care team on a temporary, hybrid basis. You will support a group of lawyers handling Court of Protection applications, Care Act 2014, and Mental Capacity Act matters, managing your own caseload under supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a significant caseload across civil/criminal litigation, children’s and adult social care, and education matters while meeting Lexcel standards.
• Provide legal research, advice, and written support to lawyers and clients.
• Represent clients in courts, tribunals, panels, and external meetings, undertaking advocacy as required.
• Clerk Education Exclusion Panel meetings and advise members, officers, and project teams.
• Act as a super‑user of the electronic case management system, ensuring compliance with office procedures, Lexcel and IIP standards.

Required profile

• General knowledge of English law, civil and criminal procedure, and public‑law principles applicable to local government.
• Experience working in a legal environment, delivering written and oral advice, and handling a caseload with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Proficiency with an electronic case management system.
