Legal Counsel – Commerce & Subscriptions

About the role

Spotify’s Commerce & Subscriptions Legal team is looking for a Legal Counsel to provide commercial‑focused advice on e‑commerce products and services. You will work closely with product, engineering, design and business partners to enable innovative purchasing experiences while managing legal risk.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical, commercially‑focused legal advice to product managers, engineers, designers and business partners building e‑commerce products.
• Support the development of new monetisation models such as subscription add‑ons, one‑time purchases and affiliate sales channels.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with external partners.
• Advise on consumer‑facing product features, UX flows, pricing structures and terms of service to ensure legal compliance.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams to explore new growth opportunities for commerce and subscriptions.
• Collaborate with other legal teams to deliver consistent guidance across products and services.
• Develop scalable legal resources such as playbooks, templates and training materials.

Required profile

• Qualified to practice law in the UK or an EU member state.
• At least 4 years of experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Experience advising on e‑commerce, digital consumer transactions and subscription‑based products.
• Strong knowledge of online commerce law, consumer protection, payments regulation, digital content and data‑privacy frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex legal concepts to non‑legal audiences.
• Comfortable working across varied legal topics, handling ambiguity and change.
• Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
