Legal Counsel – Head of Contracts

About the role

This senior legal position will lead the review, development and governance of contract terms for a large family‑owned construction group operating across England and Scotland. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, the role has high visibility and strategic importance within the business.

Key responsibilities

• Review and draft a wide range of construction contracts.
• Lead commercial negotiations with clients, subcontractors and partners.
• Develop and maintain contract strategy and governance frameworks.
• Design and deliver training to enhance contractual capability across the organisation.
• Provide expert advisory support to project teams and senior leadership.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts (ECC, PSC, TSC).
• Proven expertise in FIDIC Red, Yellow and Silver Books.
• Track record of drafting and negotiating complex construction contracts.
• Strong understanding of risk allocation, change and compensation mechanisms, and commercial management processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing abilities.
