About the role
The Legal Officer will support the administration of tribunals across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland from the Birmingham Civil Justice Centre. Working within a Regional Hearing Centre, you will handle complex case work, assess appeals and help remove barriers to timely case progression.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake complex case work and assessment activities for the First‑tier Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chamber.
- Make informed case‑management decisions using delegated judicial powers.
- Liaise with internal HMCTS colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure effective administration of justice.
- Support the senior legal officer and judicial leadership in delivering fair and efficient outcomes.
Required profile
- Ability to reflect on issues and take an impartial, evidence‑based approach.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with a wide range of court users and stakeholders.
- Capacity to work independently while collaborating with a wider team.
- Understanding of the importance of impartial decision‑making in a judicial context.
