Litigation Counsel

About the role

118 118 Money is seeking a Litigation Counsel to act as the primary in‑house lawyer for its consumer lending business. You will manage and defend financial‑services disputes, advise senior leadership, and work closely with internal teams across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the business in all claim‑related matters, including court appearances for debt recovery, Consumer Credit Act, Section 75, AI‑driven claims and broader financial‑services disputes.
• Collaborate with external counsel to identify patterns, improve claim handling and complaint responses.
• Develop and implement a litigation response framework to ensure efficient, consistent and cost‑effective case management.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, supplier agreements, NDAs and partnership arrangements.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal advice to the business, field inbound legal queries and support the paralegal function.
• Assist Compliance with FCA regulatory matters, consumer duty obligations, financial promotions and conduct requirements.
• Support due‑diligence activities for new products, partnerships and commercial transactions.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience handling financial‑services disputes and litigation.
• Proven ability to represent a business in regional courts across the UK.
• Strong commercial awareness of Consumer Credit Act, Section 75 and AI‑related legal issues.
• Experience working closely with senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
• Ability to manage a paralegal function and resolve inbound legal queries efficiently.

Required skills

• Managing litigation cases from pre‑action through court proceedings.
• Providing practical legal advice on compliance, regulatory and consumer‑duty matters.
