About the role
The Litigation Lawyer will join Trafford Council’s busy Litigation Legal Team, working alongside the Corporate Legal Team to provide expert legal advice and representation across a wide range of public‑sector matters. The role offers a hybrid working model within a supportive local‑authority environment that encourages professional development.
Key responsibilities
- Handle criminal and civil litigation, including advocacy, for the council.
- Provide advice on licensing law, public protection and employment law.
- Enforce regulatory matters such as environmental health, food safety, health and safety, licensing, planning and trading standards.
- Manage anti‑social behaviour, community safety, local authority housing and non‑domestic rates litigation.
- Conduct inquests, debt recovery, commercial disputes and GDPR/FOI matters.
- Represent the Legal Services team at committee meetings and liaise with external organisations.
- Support the Principal Solicitors, Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer as required.
Required profile
- Qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Lawyer/Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with a current practising certificate.
- Relevant experience in one or more of the areas listed above.
- Ability to develop and advise on high‑level, complex and sensitive legal work.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of national trends, policy, legislation and best practice in legal and local government matters.
- Strong communication skills for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.

- Competitive salary band 8‑10 (£40,777‑£50,269) plus market supplement.
