Logistics Year in Industry Placement 2027

About the role

AWE, which keeps the UK safe and secure, offers a one-year Logistics Year in Industry placement at Aldermaston, near Reading, starting 2 August 2027. The role sits in the Non-Nuclear Operations and Transport Group, which supports the accountancy and control of components and special materials, manages logistics and material programme deliverables and oversees material movements for internal, national and international transport, including dangerous goods. The salary is £24,500 per annum plus benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a material control interface and logistics liaison with customers and suppliers.
• Support goods receipt, warehousing, distribution, stock management and material control.
• Gain exposure to inventory management, warehousing, transport, process improvement and stakeholder engagement.
• Help enact through-life plans for material and components and maintain stock replenishment mechanisms.
• Support business areas in identifying components using available systems and subject matter expertise.
• Support management of company vehicles and fleet responsibilities, including the Transport Liaison Officer role, vehicle refuelling points and POL stations.
• Support the disposition process, following formal processes and keeping accurate records as items are dispatched for disposal.

Required profile

• Working towards an Engineering or Science-based degree with a keen interest in systems, logistics, process and planning.
• Evidence of a minimum 2:2 degree classification or equivalent by August 2027.
• Graduating in 2029 or 2030 and completing a placement year as part of the degree.
• Must be able to join in August 2027; applications are made online and the vacancy closes once filled.
• UK national with a UK passport; British citizen resident in the UK for 5 years to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV clearance.
• A full UK driving licence is beneficial.
