Manufacturing Engineering Manager

About the role

Berry Recruitment is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a small engineering team at a company located in Milton Park, Abingdon. The role is full‑time and focuses on delivering safety, quality, cost and growth objectives through effective engineering leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Manufacturing Engineering function, allocating resources to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost and growth targets.
• Develop and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap aligned with business objectives.
• Own the industrialisation process for new products, ensuring tooling, fixtures, test capability and capacity are ready for launch.
• Act as the site technical authority for manufacturing processes, equipment and industrialisation activities.
• Design, develop and implement manufacturing processes, procedures, systems and equipment.
• Identify, evaluate and implement automation, digitisation and Industry 4.0 solutions.
• Lead programme management of NPI, CAPEX, automation and continuous‑improvement projects.
• Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities.
• Drive cost‑reduction, waste elimination and productivity improvement initiatives.
• Own the TPM programme and maintenance strategy for shop‑floor equipment.
• Ensure preventative‑maintenance plans, spares strategies, uptime targets and equipment reliability metrics are effective.
• Develop, maintain and improve production test equipment, fixtures and methods.
• Facilitate root‑cause investigations using 8D, DMAIC and CAPA methodologies.
• Lead the site Continuous Improvement programme, including training, coaching and project delivery.
• Manage CAPEX budgets, departmental expenditure and business case preparation.
• Develop and review KPIs, implementing appropriate counter‑measures.
• Utilise manufacturing data and analytics to identify sustainable improvement opportunities.

• Committed and experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
• Proven ability to lead and manage a small engineering team.
• Strong focus on safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives.

• Automation and Industry 4.0 implementation.
• New Product Introduction (NPI) and CAPEX project management.
• Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programme ownership.
• Root‑cause analysis using 8D, DMAIC and CAPA.
• Manufacturing data analytics and continuous‑improvement methodologies.
