Mask Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Mask Design Engineer to join our R&D team in Plymouth, developing next‑generation semiconductor technologies. The role involves creating mask designs, managing the full mask procurement process and ensuring seamless integration with fabrication.

Key responsibilities

• Create and develop mask designs and own the end‑to‑end mask and reticle procurement process.
• Place orders, manage workflows and submit accurate data to mask vendors.
• Validate vendor outputs by reviewing digitised and fractured mask data to preserve design intent.
• Confirm mask compatibility with fab tools and manufacturing specifications.
• Act as the technical interface between design teams, fabrication sites and mask suppliers, resolving issues promptly.
• Collaborate with design, process and manufacturing teams to meet delivery schedules.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related field.
• 3+ years of industry experience in semiconductor or photonics environments.
• Experience designing masks or layout and hands‑on mask data flow / tape‑out processes.

Required skills

• Mask data formats such as GDSII and OASIS, data verification and fracturing.
• EDA tools, layout viewers and mask data preparation/verification tools.
• Understanding of design rules, lithography constraints and manufacturability requirements.
