Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

This full‑time position is based at a state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing facility in Sedgefield, County Durham. You will join an established engineering team developing advanced RF and microwave products from concept through to volume production, supporting high‑reliability sectors such as telecommunications, aerospace, defence and space.

Key responsibilities

• Design precision mechanical components and assemblies – enclosures, heatsinks, liquid‑cooling solutions and waveguide architectures – using SolidWorks.
• Perform thermal analysis, CFD, conjugate heat transfer and FEA to validate vibration, shock, fatigue and other load conditions.
• Create detailed 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, BOMs and GD&T documentation, and maintain drawing control.
• Collaborate with RF, electronics and systems engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet RF performance, EMI shielding and environmental requirements.
• Support prototype builds, first‑article approval, testing and continuous improvement through NPI and ECN/ECO processes.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong 2D/3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks.
• Experience designing high‑precision components for high‑reliability environments.
• Good understanding of PCB integration, RF shielding and EMI/EMC considerations.
• Proficiency with GD&T, engineering drawing standards and manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, die‑casting and additive manufacturing.
