Mechanical Engineer – Product Design & Support

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer at JFD you will create innovative design solutions for the JFD product range and provide through‑life support for existing equipment. The role combines new product development with upgrades and modifications for client assets, requiring strong technical communication and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities

• Assess technical queries and contribute engineering design input for new and existing products.
• Liaise with sales, procurement and production to deliver optimal technical solutions.
• Source components, create part numbers and bill of materials.
• Produce engineering documentation: specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certifications and reports.
• Review detailed manufacturing drawings for compliance with internal and external standards.
• Ensure engineering solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
• Conduct site visits to JFD offices and client assets as required.
• Act as technical checker for drawings and documentation generated by the mechanical engineering team.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar mechanical engineering role.
• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience working to marine and defence standards, including LR and DNV class rules.
• Familiarity with design standards such as IMCA.
• Experience using a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
