Mechanical Engineering Placement – 12‑Month Internship

About the role

Join the Mechanical Analysis department at Airbus Defence and Space in Stevenage, supporting a range of space missions from planetary exploration to global telecommunications. You will work on the strength, stiffness and mass performance of spacecraft hardware throughout the product lifecycle. This 12‑month placement offers hands‑on experience on real projects and the chance to develop your engineering skills in a leading aerospace environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop analysis tools to improve mechanical analysis processes.
• Perform mechanical analysis to support design or test phases of ongoing space hardware projects.

Required profile

• Studying towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering (or related) with a predicted 2:1 or above.
• Understanding of fundamental principles of structural analysis.
• Appreciation of mechanical simulation software.
• Experience with engineering calculation tools such as MS Excel; familiarity with MATLAB is advantageous.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Some programming skills are a plus.
