Media Officer – Department for Education

About the role

The Department for Education is seeking a Media Officer to join its communications team in London. You will help shape and deliver the department’s media strategy, promoting policies that aim to break the link between young people’s background and their opportunities. The role works closely with ministers, special advisers and senior officials.

Key responsibilities

• Research, draft and produce media briefings, press releases and content for a range of channels.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors and digital creators, pitching stories and ensuring coverage of departmental announcements.
• Monitor media coverage and identify emerging risks or issues related to education policy.
• Collaborate with ministerial teams to understand policy priorities and translate them into clear, compelling media messages.
• Support the planning and execution of high‑profile events and announcements.
