Mental Health Support Assistant

About the role
We are seeking a motivated graduate to join a specialist school in Thatcham as a Mental Health Support Assistant. You will work closely with students who experience a range of emotional and behavioural challenges, providing day‑to‑day support in a nurturing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist pupils with social, emotional and mental‑health needs during classroom and break times.
- Support the implementation of restorative and therapeutic practices.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to promote inclusive and diverse school life.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress.
Required profile
- Recent graduate in Psychology, Criminology, Counselling or a related field.
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
- Resilient, open‑minded and proactive attitude.
- Commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
Required skills
- Understanding of trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression and attachment disorders.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with young people.
- Strong communication and observation skills.
What we offer
- Full‑time, contractor position with a daily rate of £90‑£100.
