Mental Health Support Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a motivated graduate to join a specialist school in Thatcham as a Mental Health Support Assistant. You will work closely with students who experience a range of emotional and behavioural challenges, providing day‑to‑day support in a nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist pupils with social, emotional and mental‑health needs during classroom and break times.
• Support the implementation of restorative and therapeutic practices.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to promote inclusive and diverse school life.
• Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress.

Required profile

• Recent graduate in Psychology, Criminology, Counselling or a related field.
• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
• Resilient, open‑minded and proactive attitude.
• Commitment to supporting students with complex needs.

Required skills

• Understanding of trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression and attachment disorders.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with young people.
• Strong communication and observation skills.
