Non-Executive Director

About the role

The Royal Free London is seeking two experienced Non‑Executive Directors to join its board and help shape the strategic direction of the Trust. As a board member you will bring external expertise, challenge the executive team and support the delivery of long‑term objectives while maintaining high standards of governance.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in board committees covering finance, digital services, workforce, or patient safety and experience.
• Contribute to strategic planning, decision‑making and constructive debate.
• Provide independent challenge and support to executive directors.
• Ensure compliance with the provider licence, governance codes and relevant legislation.
• Act as an ambassador for the Trust, building relationships with NHS England, CQC and external partners.
• Engage with staff and patients through the ‘go see’ programme.

Required profile

• Board‑level experience in a senior leadership role within the public or private sector.
• Proven track record of leading and transforming large organisations with substantial budgets.
• Ability to balance short‑term priorities with long‑term strategy.
• Strong financial acumen and experience delivering cost‑efficiency programmes.
• Experience of large‑scale digital transformation (desirable but not essential).
• Commitment to NHS values, equality and diversity.
