NQ Legal Counsel – In‑house Insurance Law Role

About the role

This is a full‑time, newly qualified (NQ) legal counsel position within a small, supportive in‑house team in London. The role offers a broad exposure to the insurance market, particularly the Lloyd's market, and combines commercial, corporate and compliance work.

Key responsibilities

• Support underwriting and claims teams on re‑insurance law issues, including policy wordings and coverage queries.
• Draft, review and negotiate insurance‑related contracts such as binding authority agreements, terms of business and distribution arrangements.
• Handle a variety of commercial and corporate matters, including commercial contracts, company secretarial duties and compliance matters.
• Assist with employment, data‑protection issues and the handling of customer complaints.
• Provide practical legal advice across a fast‑paced commercial environment.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor or NQ solicitor about to qualify.
• Strong drafting, analytical and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work proactively.
• Interest in the insurance industry and willingness to learn about the Lloyd's market.

Required skills

• Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts (advantageous).
• Understanding of insurance law concepts and policy wording.
