Operations Director – Engineering Consultancy

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead operational excellence across our civil, structural and geotechnical engineering practices. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will combine strategic thinking with hands‑on execution to drive growth, integration and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight and leadership for civil, structural and geotechnical operations, improving service delivery and resource utilisation.
• Develop and implement operational strategies, KPIs and continuous‑improvement programmes to boost profitability.
• Shape and execute the group’s growth strategy, securing high‑value contracts and expanding market share in public and private sectors.
• Lead post‑acquisition integration, aligning operating models, systems and commercial practices.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting and financial performance, managing commercial risks and driving margin improvement.
• Foster a high‑performance, collaborative culture across multiple locations.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in construction, engineering or consultancy with a track record of operational and commercial improvements.
• Strong P&L accountability and budget management experience.
• Demonstrated success in business development, client acquisition and revenue growth.
• Excellent people leadership and organisational change capabilities.
• Ability to unify teams and cultures around a common strategic vision.

Required skills

• Technical background in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional qualification.
