Optical & Satellite Communications Software Engineering Placement

About the role

Join Airbus Central Research & Technology in Filton, Bristol, working on advanced optical connectivity and satellite communications for future airborne and spaceborne systems. This 12.5‑month placement offers hands‑on experience in both hardware prototyping and software development.

Key responsibilities

• Design and produce 3D‑printed and CNC‑machined parts for prototype communication systems.
• Code, test and validate software for optical and RF satellite communication platforms.
• Integrate hardware components and support laboratory and outdoor field trials.

Required profile

• Active enrolment in an engineering degree (Software, Electronics, or RF systems).
• Knowledge of information theory, control theory and programming experience with processors/microcontrollers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino).
• Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
