Outdoor Education & PSHE Teacher (11‑16) – Alternative Provision

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Outdoor Education and PSHE Teacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision in Rochdale. The role focuses on delivering engaging outdoor learning experiences for pupils aged 11‑16, helping them build confidence, resilience and essential life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Outdoor Education and PSHE lessons, including canoeing, orienteering, team‑building and adventure‑based activities.
• Organise and lead off‑site educational visits and enrichment trips.
• Support pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs using trauma‑informed practice.
• Develop partnerships with local outdoor providers, sports clubs and community organisations.
• Collaborate with families, colleagues and external agencies to monitor pupil progress.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
• Proven experience delivering Outdoor Education programmes.
• Experience working with pupils who have SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD or anxiety.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building abilities.
• Confidence leading off‑site activities and managing risk.

Required skills

• Knowledge of outdoor activity safety standards.
• Ability to design and adapt curriculum for diverse learners.
• Effective communication with pupils, parents and external partners.
