Painter & Decorator – MOD Sites (Colchester)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Painter and Decorator to deliver planned and reactive maintenance works across Ministry of Defence sites in the Colchester area. Working in secure defence environments, you will be responsible for internal and external painting, decorating and related refurbishment tasks while adhering to strict quality, safety and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out internal and external painting and decorating works on refurbishment, maintenance and fit‑out projects.
• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling and priming before decoration.
• Apply paints, emulsions, glosses, stains and other finishes to walls, ceilings, woodwork and metal.
• Remove wallpaper and perform associated decorating repairs as required.
• Maintain tools, equipment and a clean, safe working environment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients and other trades.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Painting & Decorating (or equivalent) or comparable time‑served experience.
• Proven experience in refurbishment, maintenance or responsive repairs (new‑build only is insufficient).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to obtain and retain Ministry of Defence security clearance.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
