Paralegal – Legal Support for Finance Company

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Paralegal to provide legal support for a well‑established finance company based on the outskirts of Exeter. You will act as a bridge between the Collections Team and external solicitors, ensuring cases are managed efficiently and in line with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Open and maintain files in the case management system.
• Record attendance notes, correspondence and payment details accurately.
• Implement and monitor payment plans according to company policy.
• Prepare letters before action, claim forms, particulars of claim and other court documents.
• Run Small Claims procedures and file Directions Questionnaires.
• Instruct court agents, counsel or company solicitors for hearings and trials.
• Apply for default judgments and arrange court mediation appointments.
• Provide regular case progress reports to the Managing Director or his assistant.

Required profile

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent time‑management and multitasking abilities.
• Attention to detail and the capacity to prioritise workload.
• Team‑player who can also work independently.
• Comfortable working in an FCA‑regulated environment.
• Knowledge of legal or insolvency practices and willingness to engage debtors by phone.
