Part Time Data Center Technician

About the role

As a Part‑time Data Center Technician at Microsoft, you will join the Cloud Operations & Innovation team to stage, set up and deploy hardware across Microsoft’s global data centre portfolio. The role offers hands‑on experience with data‑centre processes, safety protocols and the opportunity to support services such as Azure, Office 365 and Xbox.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifying root causes and replacing faulty components.
• Execute post‑deployment quality checks, ensuring grounding, staging, labeling and cabling meet safety and design standards.
• De‑commission hardware for simple changes and refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, rebuilds) according to SOPs.
• Communicate, report and escalate incidents to data‑centre operations management, Technician Leads and engineering specialists.
• Assist and mentor fellow technicians on challenging tasks and complete role‑specific training.

Required profile

• Part‑time availability to work in a data‑centre environment.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Willingness to complete required training and certifications.

Required skills

• Hardware deployment and installation.
• Troubleshooting and diagnostics of data‑centre equipment.
• Grounding, staging, labeling and cabling practices.
• Incident reporting and escalation.
