Pastoral Support Worker – SEMH Specialist School

About the role

This full‑time position supports pupils in a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Leyland. Working on a term‑time basis, the role starts in September and offers a clear pathway from a temporary contract to a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group mentoring to help pupils regulate emotions and engage with the curriculum.
• Implement trauma‑informed de‑escalation techniques and positive behaviour management.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCo, parents and external specialists to develop tailored support plans.
• Build trusting relationships to improve attendance, confidence and social development.
• Maintain accurate daily records of pupil progress, wellbeing and behaviour.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children or young adults with complex SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
• High emotional resilience, patience and strong communication skills.
• Willingness to obtain or already hold certifications such as Team‑Teach, CPI/MAPA or trauma‑informed practice.
• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service and full safeguarding clearance.
