Payroll Executive – Full‑time in Portsmouth

About the role

Join a supportive team in Portsmouth as a Payroll Executive, responsible for delivering accurate payrolls for a portfolio of clients. You will work full‑time, enjoy hybrid flexibility and have the chance to make a real impact by ensuring employees are paid correctly each month.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver accurate payrolls to agreed deadlines for multiple clients.
• Input payroll data, run audit and validation checks, and interface with General Ledger and pension systems.
• Monitor and process statutory payments such as SSP and SMP.
• Manage year‑end payroll reporting and updates to time‑and‑attendance systems.
• Administer end‑to‑end payroll processes, including auto‑enrolment compliance.
• Provide first‑line support for pay queries and trusted advice to clients.
• Peer‑check payrolls and collaborate with the wider payroll hub.
• Stay up‑to‑date with payroll legislation and industry changes through independent research.

Required profile

• Minimum one year of experience in payroll administration, clerk or officer roles, preferably in a busy service‑driven environment.
• Hands‑on experience of end‑to‑end payroll processing, including pensions, benefits and statutory payments.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail, both manually and using payroll systems.
• Ability to coordinate, prioritise and multitask with minimal supervision.
• Strong customer focus with confidence handling queries by phone and email.
• Adaptability to change and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of payroll legislation, processing and auto‑enrolment regulations.
