Payroll Executive

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Executive to join our Portsmouth team. You will own a portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and excellent customer service while working closely with the Payroll Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of payroll clients, processing payrolls accurately and on schedule.
• Enter payroll data, perform audit and validation checks, and interface with General Ledger and pension systems.
• Process statutory payments such as SSP and SMP in line with current legislation.
• Complete year‑end payroll activities and maintain time‑and‑attendance system updates.
• Oversee end‑to‑end payroll processes, including pension auto‑enrolment administration.
• Respond to payroll and pay‑related queries, providing advice and support to clients.
• Review and peer‑check payrolls while collaborating with the wider payroll team.
• Stay up‑to‑date with payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and industry best practice.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year’s experience as a Payroll Administrator, Officer or Clerk, preferably in a fast‑paced bureau or accountancy setting.
• Experience managing the full payroll cycle, including pensions, statutory payments and employee benefits.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
• Customer‑focused approach with confidence handling queries via phone and email.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
