Payroll Officer

About the role

Charterhouse School is seeking a highly organised Payroll Officer to join its busy payroll team. You will deliver an accurate and efficient payroll service for roughly 1,000 employees across the school group, ensuring compliance with legislation, pension regulations and internal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for all school staff and subsidiary companies on time and accurately.
• Coordinate payroll inputs, validate data and produce payroll calculations.
• Maintain employee remuneration records and ensure statutory deductions are correct.
• Respond to payroll‑related queries from staff, HR and finance departments.
• Support payroll audits and ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC regulations.
• Collaborate closely with HR, Finance and school leadership on payroll matters.

Required profile

• Essential GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
• Payroll qualification or willingness to work towards one (CIPP desirable).
• Significant experience of payroll processing in a medium or large organisation.
• Experience with statutory payroll calculations and UK payroll legislation.
• Experience working collaboratively with HR teams.

Required skills

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Proficiency with computerised payroll systems.
