PhD Studentship: Next-generation TPD for Oncology (Ubiquitin-independent)
University of Cambridge · Cambridge
Job description
About the role
The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge, in partnership with AstraZeneca, offers a funded PhD studentship to study proteasome-targeting tools and design novel approaches for Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD). The project is based in the lab of Dr Catherine Lindon, with a supervisory team including Dr Gustavo Gutierrez, Professor Laura Itzhaki, Dr Sharan Bagal and Dr David McGarry.
The aim is to establish a novel TPD platform by using Midnolin, a protein that delivers substrates directly to the proteasome, for ubiquitin-independent degradation. The programme explores Midnolin biology and develops tools to direct its activity toward oncology targets.
Required profile
- Motivated, curious student with a strong interest in cell biology and biochemistry and enthusiasm for TPD approaches.
- Ability to work independently.
- Good knowledge and/or experience in both biochemistry and cell biology.
- First or high 2:1 bachelor's degree from a UK university, or equivalent overseas qualification, in a relevant subject.
What we offer
- Funded for 4 years, covering stipend and tuition fees at Home rate.
- Open to overseas students meeting UK residency requirements or who can cover the fee difference through scholarships or funding schemes; self-funding is not allowed.
