About the role
Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking a Pipe Stress Engineer to join the Reactor Island Component Structural Analysis team. You will work closely with component design and layout teams to provide stress analysis for piping systems and supporting structures across our Small Modular Reactor projects.
Key responsibilities
- Perform design‑code assessments in line with ASME B31 series, ASME III (Div 1, NB, NC, ND, NF) and seismic requirements.
- Deliver structural analysis for pipework and support elements, including 3D Finite Element Analysis where required.
- Support supply‑chain partners by reviewing and advising on their analysis work.
- Manage programme activities, milestones, budgets and risk, ensuring timely delivery.
- Collaborate with safety‑case and regulatory teams to meet high‑level nuclear industry standards.
Required profile
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Chartered or working towards chartered status).
- Experience conducting pipe stress assessments using recognised design codes.
- Proven ability to organise and manage complex engineering programmes.
- Strong communication skills to interact with internal teams and external partners.
Required skills
- ASME B31 series and ASME III (Div 1, NB, NC, ND, NF) code knowledge.
- Fatigue design experience for ASME Section III Class 1.
- Proficiency with pipe stress analysis software such as Autopipe, Abaqus, PepS, ADLPipe, CAESAR, PSA5.
- 3D Finite Element Analysis capability.
- Familiarity with nuclear industry regulations and safety‑case processes.
What we offer
- Competitive salary range £43,000‑£56,438 per annum.
- Performance‑related bonus up to 12.5%.
