Pipeline Operator – Inverness

About the role

As part of the Inverness operations team you will ensure the safe, efficient and continuous running of the Petroleum Supply Depot, its pipelines and associated facilities. The role starts on core hours and will transition to a 24‑hour shift pattern with on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

• Set up pumping routes and manage fuel receipt, delivery and inter‑site movements using site route cards.
• Act as Approved Inspector of Fuel Quality, overseeing product and additive integrity, stock control, tank dipping, temperature correction and batch record keeping.
• Operate computer terminals and control systems such as SCADA and ABB to monitor plant operations.
• Issue and monitor Permits to Work for colleagues and contractors, ensuring compliance.
• Perform pre‑planned equipment checks, assist maintenance teams and report defects, hazards or near‑misses.
• Participate in the duty standby rota and respond to on‑call call‑outs.
• Maintain pipeline wayleave, including vegetation control, pipeline furniture, husbandry and minor mechanical maintenance.
• Conduct site visits to third‑party work, compile reports on infringements, line walks and aerial patrol findings.

Required profile

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
• Full driving licence.
• Experience in a regulated or safety‑critical environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail.
• Effective communication and workload prioritisation skills.
