Press Officer – Public Relations

About the role

Transport for London’s award‑winning Press Office is seeking a creative and proactive Press Officer to join its supportive, collaborative team. You will help shape TfL’s public image, promote its green transport initiatives and manage media relations in a fast‑moving, high‑profile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Create engaging news releases and pitch stories to national, regional, trade and broadcast media.
• Design and deliver creative PR campaigns, amplify cross‑channel communications and support social‑media content.
• Identify positive PR opportunities and respond swiftly to negative or critical news to protect TfL’s reputation.
• Arrange media visits, brief spokespeople and act as the first point of contact for journalists.
• Monitor emerging issues that could affect TfL’s reputation and prepare proactive responses.
• Participate in an out‑of‑hours media rota, providing service evenings and weekends.

Required profile

• Energetic, positive and creative communications professional.
• At least one year of experience in a busy, high‑profile media environment.
• Proven ability to plan, coordinate and deliver PR campaigns for diverse audiences.
• Strong knowledge of the media landscape and current PR techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a nose for news.

• Salary of £34,750 per year plus on‑call allowance.
